Technical Notes is an area for detailed documentation regarding work done on a portion of the project. This section is important as if another person has to join the project, they will need to refer to these notes. Some examples are: The creation of custom modules and their file names, customizations performed to stock code segments and all details concerning the customization, segments commented out, bugs resolved, and more.

The task list is a break down of the overall project. Particular segments can be worked upon by multiple Consultants. All hours worked on a project will be documented here, and their completion will also be noted here. Bug work will be noted in here along with what section it pertains to.

The Proposal is a document containing detailed information about the purpose of the project, the goals of the project, and how the ARC department intends to meet the projects goals.

The Technical Specification is a detailed document with information pertaining to the specifics of how the projects goals will be met. This section will include information regarding extremely specific information that the client may not need to know, but are important reference items for future review of the project, or should another individual get involved.

The Work Order is an outline version of the steps the ARC department plans to take in order to satisfy the needs of the client, simplifying the review process.

The Invoice is a document containing the work completed, the hours logged for each different segment of the project, and the total costs of the project upon completion.

ARCOS

ARCOS (applicant reactions cross-cultural organizational studies) was envisioned as a way for researchers from around the world to gather data using similar methodology and to pool their data to create papers on the topics of applicant reactions to selection and, more broadly, fairness. The idea came from a session in Greece in the summer of 2006 which was held at the International Congress of Applied Psychology (ICAP). Looking at the presenters and at people in the room, it became clear that an International effort would be desirable and possible. Over beers at an outdoor restaurant following the session, the idea was discussed and we agreed to pursue it. Thus, ARCOS and ARCLS (applicant reactions cross-cultural lab studies) were born. Ecoplexity

The "Teaching Ecological Complexity" program (TEC) trains high-school teachers in ways to bring science inquiry into classrooms. It was formerly called "Teachers in the Woods" but is expanding with new funding from the National Science Foundation.

GIS Info

GMB

GMB is an acronym for Geomicrobiology, a web-driven project for managing data and assets associated with Geologic/Microbiologic research at PSU. The project aims to create a webpage where geology faculty and graduate students can view and edit data assosciated withongoing projects. It will create a centralized location for such information, and increase productivity in doing so.

The project has gone through several stages of development and naming. When originally developed by Percy it was called FLIMS (Field and Laboratory Informations Management System). Later it was renamed to Geo-LIMS, though this version under construction for the GEM lab is called GMB. We hope to generalize it for any field and lab based domain in the future.

Invasive Species

The invasive species project is webpage that will educate people about different aquatic invasive species, their impacts, how to manage them, and how to prevent them from being transported. The webpage will service eduactors, managers, and other outreach personnel by providing information to them.

Leadership Conference 2007

Mark Wubold wanted an online registration for a leadership conference he was holding. He contacted the ARC department and requested their help setting up an online registration tool, following his requirements.

Map-Fu

Map-Fu is an open source general mapping interface that can be modified to address specific map generation and manipulation needs (particularly for GIS purposes). It uses Mapserver and PHP 5 on the server side and Javascript on client side. Map-Fu was formerly known as YAMI. Much of the look and functionality has been borrowed and "genericized" from the OSCDL project.

Measure 37

The measure 37 project seeks to create a webpage where those intersted can see claims filed under measure 37, as well as information regarding the claim(s). The information on claims will be searchable by a variety of fields, and host a large amount of information pertaining to measuer 37.

OIRP DAILY ENROLLMENT

The Office of Institutional Research and Planning (OIRP) needs information about daily enrollment to do it's jobs. This information has traditionally been downloaded by a faculty member, printed, and then faxed to the department. The OIRP requested to have the ARC develope a webapplication that would automate this process and also perform stastistical analysis upon the stored data.

ARC was asked to deliver the daily enrollment figures to the Office of Institutional Research & Planning (OIRP) website. Juliet Stoering previously pulled these figures from the Banner warehouse and then faxed the figures to University notables each Monday. Once there was a generic warehouse user was created with rights to the correct data, it would feasible to deliver the figures to the OIRP web site.

PRE - PSU Remote Executioner

PRE is a web interface designed to allow users to submit jobs to various programs (tested so far only with R) located on remote compute servers and to retrieve the data in the form of HTML pages once done.
